Terms of use
Last updated: 24 October 2026
The short version. Muttmates is a free app that helps dog owners find each other at the park. Everything you do with it, including going to a park and meeting people and dogs you found through the app, is at your own risk. We accept no responsibility for anything that happens as a result of using the app, to the maximum extent the law allows. The disclaimer spells this out.
1. Who we are
Muttmates (muttmates.au) is operated by Dutch Digital Dynamics Pty Limited (ABN 86 081 237 087), based in Queensland, Australia. In these terms, "we", "us" and "Muttmates" mean that company, and "you" means anyone who uses the app or the website. You can reach us at hello@muttmates.au.
2. What the app is
Muttmates lets you post that you are heading to a dog park, see who else is going, and keep a list of the dogs your dog gets on with. It also lists off-leash dog parks across Australia. That is all it is: a noticeboard for dog owners. It does not vet people, dogs or parks, and it does not supervise anything that happens away from your screen.
3. Your account
- You must be 18 or older to create an account.
- Give us accurate details and keep them current.
- Keep your password to yourself. Whatever happens under your account is on you until you tell us it has been compromised.
- One account per person. Do not create accounts for other people.
4. Use at your own risk
You use Muttmates entirely at your own risk. That covers the app itself and, more importantly, everything the app leads to in the real world: travelling to a park, meeting people you found through the app, and letting your dog interact with other dogs. We do not check who joins, we do not check any dog's temperament or vaccination status, and we make no promises about anyone or anything you encounter. Read the full disclaimer before you use the app.
5. Your dog is your responsibility
- You are responsible for your dog at all times: its behaviour, its health, and any harm it causes to people, other dogs or property.
- Council rules on leashing, registration and restricted breeds vary. Off-leash status shown in the app can be wrong or out of date. The signage at the park and your local council are the authority, not us.
- If your dog is unwell, aggressive or unvaccinated, keep it home. That is basic decency, and in most places the law.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post: dog profiles, photos, plans, messages, park comments and suggestions. By posting it you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store it and show it through the service, which includes the public park pages on this website, where recent park comments and dog names appear. Only post what you have the right to post, and nothing unlawful, abusive, misleading or spammy. We can remove content and suspend accounts that break these terms, at our discretion.
7. Acceptable use
- No harassment, intimidation or abuse of other members, online or at the park.
- No using the app to advertise outside your own listing in the services directory, and no scraping data, harvesting contact details or sending spam.
- No attempting to break, probe or overload the service.
- No use that breaks any law.
8. Park data
Park locations and facilities come from OpenStreetMap contributors, under the Open Database Licence, plus suggestions from members. Community data is sometimes wrong. A park may be closed, fenced differently, or not off-leash at all. Always check the signage on the ground.
9. Services directory
Any dog-related business or carer can list in the services directory for free. Listings are written by the provider and read by a moderator before they appear. A moderator's read is a check that the listing is a real dog service and follows these terms. It is not a check of the provider's skill, insurance, licences or character, and we do not recommend or endorse any provider.
Fees are set by the provider. Muttmates takes no payment and no commission, and is not a party to anything you arrange with a provider. Meet the provider, ask for references and insurance, and make up your own mind before you hand over your dog.
We can ask for a change to a listing, suspend it or remove it. A listing that its owner has not confirmed for 180 days drops out of the public list until they confirm it is still current.
10. The service itself
Muttmates is free to join and use. Some optional extras, such as the paid road trip planner described below, cost money. Everything else in the app stays free. We provide the service as-is and as-available. We may change it, add to it, break it while fixing it, or shut it down, at any time and without notice. We make no promise that it will be available, accurate or error-free, and no promise that notifications will arrive on time or at all.
11. Paid features and payments
Some features, such as unlocking a full road trip plan, are a one-off paid purchase rather than part of the free app. Where a feature costs money, the price is shown before you pay, and payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details ourselves.
All purchases are final. We do not offer refunds. This applies once a paid feature, such as a route plan, has been unlocked and delivered, whether or not you go on to use it. If a payment fails to unlock the feature you paid for because of a fault on our side, contact hello@muttmates.au and we will put it right. This no refunds policy does not affect any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded, including where a paid feature fails to work at all.
12. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all liability to you for any loss, damage, injury or death, to you, your dog, or anyone else, arising out of or in connection with the app or anything you do because of it. This includes direct, indirect and consequential loss, and it applies however the claim arises: contract, tort including negligence, statute or otherwise.
Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. Where the law lets us limit our liability for a breach of such a right, our liability is limited to resupplying the service.
You are responsible for what you do with the app. If your use of it causes loss to someone else, that is between you and them, not us.
13. Ending things
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. That removes your dogs, plans, photos and messages, and it cannot be undone. We can suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top tells you when they last changed. Using the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.
